Veterans
War Memorial:
A wonderful and beautiful
tribute to all veterans; a huge, black granite wall and two wings contain the
names of approximately 1100 area men and women who so proudly served our country. A nearby pond proudly displays a Cobra helicopter hovering over
it's water.
Hawkins Pavilion & Recreation Park:
Large
covered pavilion, state of the art play-ground equipment, covered picnic areas
with tables and grills, a paved walking trail with exercise
stations. Site of annual Oil Festival.
Oil Festival Parade:
Hawkins
Oil Festival is an annual event occurring on the second Saturday in
October every year.
RRS Aviation:
RRS
Aviation located near downtown Hawkins restores World War II planes.
Pictured is a Navy Grumman F-9F Panther Jet used during the Korean War.
The TBM Avenger displayed at the George Bush Presidential Library, and many more
famous planes, were all restored by RRS Aviation.
Lake Hawkins RV Park:
Open
year round, on site manager, area includes over 40 cement pads with hook-ups,
covered gazebo, park benches, restrooms/showers, RV storage, and campground.
Lake Hawkins:
A
lake for all ages, 1000 acres of spring fed water; swim, sail, ski, fish, bike
or camp; beautiful fall foliage, lakeside living.
Jarvis Christian
College:
A
private, four-year, historically black, fully accredited, coeducational, liberal
arts institution; founded in 1912.
Golf Courses:
The
area abounds with beautiful, as well as challenging, courses, both private and
public, including nearby Holly Lake Ranch.
Sabine
River:
Historic.
Over 12,000 years old. Winding, scenic banks, wetland habitat, canoeing,
fishing sightseeing, flowing southward to the Texas gulf.
Pine
Mills Pottery:
Located
just north of Hawkins, Pine Mills Pottery studio and gallery features
high-quality wood fired stoneware handmade by Gary and Daphne Hatcher.
